Product Description

Nothing changes the way you see the world like High Definition², and no company does High Definition² like Opteka. In the professional setting, Opteka's glass optics define High Definition. Change the way you view the world. Enjoy outstanding detail, enjoy enhanced clarity, enjoy Opteka. Since it fits right over your camera's existing lens system, a wide-angle converter affects the full zoom range of your camera's lens. A wide-angle converter increases your angle of view - scenes include more of the landscape, groups include more people, and interiors show more of the room. A .45x wide-angle converter DOUBLES your angle of view, allowing you to get twice as much in the picture (AND your telephoto setting also becomes wider; not zooming in as close).

Customer reviews

Works as advertised 4
I have edited this review but it won't let me change my star rating. I had given it four stars but would move up to five stars since I had thought that the lens adapter that was mentioned in a previous review was missing. In reality it was hiding among the packing peanuts in the box. Overall, I would say that I got my money's worth. There is some distortion in the lens but since I am creating panoramas from the pictures, it doesn't really matter. It is only noticeable when there is a horizontal or vertical line near the edge of the picture. My panorama software didn't have any real difficulties with it, even considering that I didn't shoot my quick test pictures with a nodal head. I can't see any noticeable darkening around the edges.

Decent Value, Superior Performance 5
This lens is well-constructed, optically accurate, screwed right onto the adapter and my camera. The only catch is that it blocks the built-in flash, so I had to purchase an external flash, another $60. But now, I have more capabilities and it works well.

marginal image quality though inexpensive 3
Opteka lenses are a low cost alternative to the Canon brand conversion lenses.
However, the image quality is not very good, and will only be acceptable on smaller size images. If you use a protective UV filter, the lens will vignette all 4 corners a little bit.
The lens is a big chunk of glass and blocks nearly all of the view through the viewfinder, so you will need to use the LCD for framing purposes.
You also need to set your zoom to the widest setting, so it becomes a fixed-focal length lens (no zooming).
It comes with an aluminum adaptor, which normally costs about $15 on its own.

It's probably worth $30 if you are not too particular about image quality and are not making fine art shots.
