Product Description

The ADORAMA Vertical Battery Grip for the Canon EOS 20D and 30D digital cameras functions as both a high-capacity battery pack and a vertical grip. It holds up to 2 BP511/511A battery packs, thereby doubling the shooting time of the camera. It also allows for the use of six AA batteries in the supplied battery magazine. It also features a vertical shutter release that makes shooting with the camera in a vertical position just as comfortable as shooting horizontally. Additionally, it supports features such as AE lock and AF lock-with access to the Index/Reduce button, main dial, AF-Frame Select button, and Aperture/Exposure Compensation Button.

Test IMMEDIATELY Upon Receipt! 1
I purchased this item for a "when needed" backup. When the time arrived, it was out of their warranted period and it would not operate. I was totally out the money. An exchange would have been totally acceptable, but that was not even offered.

They would not answer my emails, and I had to email Amazon for assistance. Needless to say, I was out the money and purchased the Canon model, which obviously worked fine.

Buyer - beware of this model!

Worked for a week 1
This grip is not well manufactured. I used it for a week or so and it was great, if a little square. Then it started turning off whenever I held the camera in the vertical position. It seems like there's electrical contact issues, either between the grip and camera, or the batteries and the grip. I wouldn't recommend it for the small savings. I went to shoot and event and had to hustle to get old battery door back on so I didn't miss anything.

dose not work 1
i tested it with my original batteries and even with the AA batteries it dose not work.
one of the included batteries is dead and the other one charges from empty to full in just few minutes (this is weird).

Didn't know how much I'd like it 5
I wasn't sure how much I'd like the vertical grip on my 20D. After all, I rarely ran out of battery power, so I didn't need the extra battery, and I already thought the camera was big/heavy enough, especially with a large piece of glass on it. The reason I bought it was because I was tired of botching vertical shots because I was so unsteady trying to hold the camera and get to the shutter release. I had no idea how much I would like it!

It turns out not only does it solve my vertical shooting problem (which it does beautifully, with a very comfortable hand position and all controls echoed on the grip), it also nearly perfectly balances my camera when I am shooting large glass like my EF-S 18-55mm f2.8. Another problem I used to have was, when I was carrying the camera around my neck, especially with my EX-580 flash attached, the camera kept wanting to face toward the ground, sticking my flash way out in front of me. It made it very cumbersome to carry through a museum, etc. The vertical grip, by making the camera slightly longer, allows it to sit upright on my chest, even with a large lens and my hotshoe flash.

So many upsides, and so few downsides, there's no reason at all not to buy one.
