Product Description
Thanks to a new, long-lasting LED light engine, the Full HD (1920 x 1080p) picture of the HL-T5089S DLP HDTV will last as long as the set. An ultra-thin, piano-black bezel around the 50" screen lets you enjoy more screen and less frame. Its slim depth, light weight and hidden speaker system allow the set to fit where others won't. Samsung's Cinema Smooth light engine delivers the widest range of brilliant colors, while a 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio renders every picture in perfect detail, from the darkest darks to brightest whites, and every tone in between. SRS TruSurround XT delivers sound that is clear and full.Customer reviews
Poor Quality Control
I did not get this TV from Amazon, but purchased through another retailer.
The TV was delivered yesterday and set-up. Out of the box the TV does not work. There is no RED. Only Blues and Greens. This is on all inputs and when you go into the setup screen to adjust colors you still can not get any reds in the picture. On top of that, even HDMI output from the DVD player looks very grainy. In the store the picture on this TV looked great, but quality control is horrible. There is no excuse for spending this much on a TV and having to get it repaired out of the box!!!!!!!
Unfortunately the place I bought it is forcing me to go through Samsung for the repair and will only replace it if Samsung can not fix. The first thing I will do if it is repaired, is sell it and go by something else. This is the first and LAST Samsung product I will ever buy. I went with DLP because, #1 I am affiliated with the chip maker and wanted to support my own products. #2 with the LED light sources I felt like I would get a TV that would last a long time.
Well I still want an LED DLP, just not Samsung.
Best Value in DLP
This television is amazing. The remote & menus take some getting used to but it has a bright, vibrant picture and the action scenes translate efficiently and clearly (watching the NCAA Tournament) with no blur. The LED light below the power button is annoying but this is most definitely the best value in DLP TV's with an LED light engine it should be nearly repair free over the lifetime of the product. I highly recommend this television.
Great value
We owned a four year old Samsung DLP and liked it. I wanted to go flat screen but decided not to due to the high price and small diference in picture (to my eye). I am not disappointed in the least. I purchased this unit for $1699.00 delivered. After a simple installation and easy tweeking I would agree with other reviews....this is one of the very best TV bargains on the market currently. I compared this unit side by side to the other high end products and, yes, there is a difference. But nothing that would convince me to spend another 700.00 to 1200.00 dollars. The picture quality with blu ray is as good as anything I viewed at any price. I have Direct TV and their feed produces a very good to an excellent picture. The only slight failure is the blacks are not produced as dark as I would like them in some cases. This unit is also an extremely attractive addition to our home even when it's off.
Best 50" DLP TV
I have had the Samsung's earlier 50" DLP 4 years ago even it did not last more that 4 years but the new one have plenty technical improvements so decided to go ahead and purchased this one expecting this should last at least 8 years.
Simply Amazing!
My HL-T5089s just arrived and I cannot stress how good the picture really is. This is by the far best Rear Projection TV for picture, longetivty, and simply placement for it being only 12.4 inches in depth. With HDMI 1.3, bluetooth, USB 2.0 and a better illuminated remote it was a much easier decsion for me to buy the 89s vs the 87s. You will not find a rainbow effect as there is no color wheel since this is the first LED light engine Rear Projection TV. Match this TV with the only the best High-Def player and surround sound sytem and you will be amazed how close it may appear that you are in the film.
