Editorial Reviews:

Terence Stamp as a drag queen--an Aussie drag queen? Darling, you'd better believe it. In Stephan Elliott's delirious exercise in ultra-camp meets outback macho, Stamp plays an ageing trans-sexual who, with two of his equally high-glossed pals, heads off for a cabaret engagement in Alice Springs. Priscilla is their chosen vehicle, a school bus painted an outrageous purple. The culture-clash comedy that ensues is none too unpredictable: the local Ockers, initially contemptuous, soon find the spangled and bewigged trio can out-talk, out-drink and if necessary, out-punch them; everything ends in a warm glow of mutual tolerance and appreciation. Elliott maybe hits the feelgood button a little too hard, but it's impossible not to be swept along by the sheer brash energy of the film. The bitchy dialogue snaps and crackles, the costumes and Fellini-esque dance numbers are to die for, and Stamp and Co.--enjoying themselves no end--play the whole thing to the hilt and some way beyond it. --Philip Kemp

Summary: A lesson of tolerance and humour
Comment: This is a film I like watching on a regular basis. I never get tired of it. The story is so simple but fantasctic. The characters have real novel type strong personalities. The costumes and the music (but you have to like Abba !) are fab.You will laugh, smile and cry and think ! A must see

Summary: Is that really agent smith?!?
Comment: Wow. Utterley superb! Watching the Hugo Weaving in a dress when I had become accustomed to seeing him in a black suit and sunglasses was an amusing contrast. Not that his character didn't have it's serious moments. He's a great agent, but he's also a great drag queen! He deserves a special pat on the back for his efforts in this film. Brilliant stuff!
This is the story is 3 Aussie drag queens heading to Alice Springs for a show. Their transport? A school bus named Priscilla. The music? Abba, "I will survive!", and other sing-a-longs. Things don't quite go to plan, however, and mishaps inevitably happen.
On the surface, this is a genuinly amusing comedy. "Just shut up and eat your hormones!" but it also deals with a sensitive topic,-acceptance of something different. The viewer will find pity for each "girl" due to the way they are sometimes treated and what they have to put up with. They give as good as they get, though, and that's what keeps us laughing.
The actors really appear to enjoy their parts (and look rather comfortable in stilletos!) Watching Bernadette and Felicia arguing while Mitzi dances around in the background kept me lauging for a while. It's great to see well established actors who can take on an entirely different roll and flourish in it. It may have been made nearly 10 years ago, but Priscilla's humour is still up to date and classic. An excellent, sensitive and moving film. A favourite on my DVD shelf.

Summary: Australian Brilliance
Comment: This film shows not only the stars, but the roles as a gay drag queen, a bi sexual drag queen and a transsexual. The film also very accurately portrays attitudes in small towns and an underlying need for tolerance. The music is excellent, the cast superb and the general storyline brilliant. This is a must see film for comedy lovers, music lovers and most of all it is a 'feel good movie. Terence Stamp is superb as the post op Transsexual Bernadette, a role which can be very difficult to portray WELL.
A must see for everyone who likes witty comedy, fun, music and great costumes.
