Editorial Reviews:

Acclaimed production, set in a repertory company. Twiggy stars as a bashful backstage helper who suddenly finds she's the star of the show when the leading lady falls ill. Musical directors include; Ian Whittaker, Peter Greenwell and Peter Maxwell Davies.

Summary: I agree with Dr Featherweight !
Comment: Where is the DVD release of this classic piece of Ken Russell camp ? It showed what a good actress Twiggy could be (where is the DVD of Madame Sousatzka ????) and is enormously indulgent and good fun. Please remaster the original director's cut and release it on DVD. Given the ridiculously high prices being asked for old ex-rental VHS tapes of this film, a DVD release sounds like it would be a profitable exercise.

Summary: Where is the DVD?
Comment:
Rotten day at work? Vile weather? Stinky flu? Generally feeling sorry for yourself? Jim-jams and slippers, hot chocolate, toast and jam, cat on lap - and on with 'The Boyfriend'.

I loved this film as a very young teenager, its joyous, completely silly and serves the same feel-good purpose as 'Singin' in the Rain' or the original 'Producers' - I'm delighted to see it's on video (for years you couldn't get it in the UK at all), but MGM - WHERE IS THE DVD?

Summary: Nostalgic In Every Sense
Comment: If you love the art of silent movies then this is the movie for you. Set in 1924 the boyfiend was a musical production in the lower suberbs of London. There are many well known faces in this classic hit and the music is just unforgettable, not to mention all the talented dancers, costume designers and cinematographers. If you are mad about the crazy twenties then this is the ideal movie to watch.

Summary: Absolutely wonderful!
Comment: I must say that this has to be my favourite film of all time. Twiggy makes a brilliant newcomer to the film industry, as does her character - Polly Browne, who, incidently is a newcomer to the stage. It's a lovely story with a happy ending. The songs are fabulous, I'm certainly singing along!
This film is a must! Twiggy is beautiful and portrays a lovely young lady in love.
