Not content to merely add on additional levels, the Diablo II: Lord of Destruction expansion pack improves the entire Diablo II game experience and concludes the story. The expansion has been described as both an "add-in" and an "add-on", and it truly is a must-have for Diablo II players. The add-on is the new act, which tells the story of Baal's destructive trek through the Barbarian Highlands. You must stop him before he corrupts the magical Worldstone and opens Hell. The add-in is all the improvements to the core game. The most obvious improvement is with graphics. Lord of Destruction lets gamers ratchet up Diablo II's graphics resolution to 800 x 600. This means both prettier graphics and the ability to see more of the battlefield at once, which effectively increases the range of spells and missile weapons. The graphics boost is nice, but hardcore players will really appreciate the gameplay enhancements. It's hard to pick the single best element from a long list of substantial improvements that includes a larger character stash, more socketable items, more unique items, new classes of weapons and new Horadric Cube recipes. Entirely new features include the ability to craft unique magic items, runes (which function like gems but can be combined to form powerful runeword combinations), totems (which add ability, combat or resistance bonuses but take up space in inventory) and hireling inventory (hand down your old equipment to your hireling). All these improvements are applied to both the new act and the four acts in Diablo II. Even experienced Diablo II players get to appreciate the improvements to acts 1-4 because the two new character classes (Assassin and Druid) must complete all four acts in Diablo II before they can be used in the expansion. The Assassin is a stealthy warrior and wizard slayer who uses martial arts, traps and mental discipline to defeat Hell's minions. The conclusion to one of the best-loved and most-played games of all time is satisfying and well worth the hours of sleepless nights and the blurry-eyed mornings. --Mike Fehlauer

Customer Rating: Summary: AMAZING Comment: ive been playing Diablo for years but the Expansion (especially on patch 1.11b) is incredible. It blows your mind away. With the two new character classes-druid and assassin- and hundreds of new items, this addictive game is a great play and can keep you going for hours.
buy this game.
you will never get bored :)
Customer Rating: Summary: The Best Game EVER Comment: Diablo II was amazing; the expansion puts a few cherries on the already beautifully iced cake. (Mmmm, cake...)
LoD introduces runes, jewels, more weapons, a new act (Where you have to kill Baal) and further levels of difficulty, allowing you to obtain Elite versions of weapons, like the Phase Blade - a Crystal Sword with much higher damage and a far-increased speed.
Update to version 1.09 and you have perfection installed on your PC.
You won't complete the game in a week - SOLID. It takes forever. And before you do, you'll find you're addicted to it. You'll finish it in normal mode, then nightmare, then hell. Then you'll relapse a year later. I'm addicted to this game like Robbie Williams on Coffee - I just can't put it down!
Customer Rating: Summary: This is a good hack em' style RPG. Comment: Diablo2 has been my favorite online game for many years, the simple yet entertaining hack and slash style of playing makes the game have a great flowing feel to it.
Although the grapics are now dated and look dire compared to newer titles such has World of Warcraft, you wont find another RPG that is in the same league in its style.
Basically you look down on your chatacter, which can be any of the the five oringal characters or the new Assassin and Durid. Click where you would like to move away you go on quests and treasure hunting. You can equip loads and loads of diffrent items to your character and with the Expansion, all new one class only items.
Each character is tottaly diffrent yet very well balanced. Has your character levels you will gain attributes ponits and skill ponits, with which you can customism and a create a personalised build for your character, some working better than others.
The best thing about Diablo2 has got to be the great online gaming, which may i add is 100% free. You can have up to 8 players in one server, which you can create or join. So you and your friends can quest together. Making things like power leveling possible.
Leveling is nice, 99 levels. So it it isnt slow to level at the start of the game, where you can set the basics for your build but has you hit the 60 mark levels become more and more difficult. Myself have never hit the 99 mark.
You dont need a good pc to run this game, nor 100s of hours of free time. Its a very layed back, well made RPG which i recommend to anybody who likes a good RPG.
Customer Rating: Summary: Prepare to be converted! Comment: This review's been a long time coming. I've been a die hard fan of Diablo 2 for a good 7 years now (that's to say the game rocks rather than I'm a sad loser with no life :)) and with good reason.
Gameplay:
Single player games (where you play offline using just one character) are fun, and you get to know the game the hard way. You use your self-found equipment and enjoy the game much more.
Online games are even more fun because of the social aspect. You meet other gamers and have heaps of fun completing quests with other players playing different characters. Believe me, having a well rounded party (with melee fighters, spell-casters and party enhancers like Paladins and Necromancers) gives gameplay a totally refreshing and entirely welcome twist!
On the downside, the game is now so old that most of the players online just want to rush through quests without enjoying the game, getting experience, etc. It's sad to see many online gamers getting rushed through all acts and all difficulty levels and then participating in mind-numbingly boring levelling runs. That kills the game for me. That was a big reason I switched to single player. Another downside to online play is the multitude of cheaters and hackers who take the fun out of the game. Blizzard has attempted to combat hacks and cheats but not very effectively. What this has resulted in is a total destruction of the online game economy where honest players find it difficult to enjoy the game properly. The new ladder system (where everybody starts from scratch when the ladder resets) helps mitigate that to some degree, but there hasn't been a ladder reset in ages. And the hacks and dupes find their way into the ladder in a few weeks anyway.
But having said that, the character development (uniquely customizing your character with various skills, attributes and weapons/armour/other items) and item finding aspects still make the game very highly playable and highly addictive.
A glut of information is available online about all aspects of gameplay, so I won't go into details here. Suffice it to say that if you like medieval role playing games, this game will keep you engaged for months at least!
Graphics:
Most gamers will find the graphics sufficient for enjoying the game. But they're hardly photo-realistic. Take a look at game screenshots on the official website to get an idea. There are a few on-screen character appearance changes based on what you're wearing, but not too much. When there're too many monsters or characters on the screen and if there are area-of-effect attacks or spells (including necromantic curses), it does tend to get a bit cluttered and difficult to make out details.
Music and sound:
The music and sound fit well with the dark gothic theme of the game. Though my game sound has been off for ages now, I never found reason to complain on this front.
Replayability:
Replayability is very high for reasons I have mentioned before. There are so many variations in gameplay possible, that you'll find it very difficult to get bored by this game.
Pearls of wisdom from a veteran to enjoy your Diablo responsibly:
First of all, if you like the sound of what you hear, you have to try the game out. But before you plunge into it, make sure you download the latest game patch from Blizzard which will enable you to enjoy the latest the game has to offer. I would recommend playing a couple of characters in single player mode first, and completing the game in normal difficulty level just to know the score. After that feel free to continue in Single Player mode, or pop to battle.net for the multiplayer experience.
Most of all, in your first few weeks, play the game in moderation and try not to exceed a couple of hours of consecutive gameplay and not more than a few hours a day :) Enjoy!
Customer Rating: Summary: Can a pc actually be this much fun? Comment: Diablo and Diablo II were both brilliant games but they just dont compare to the awsomeness of lord of destruction. I speak from experience when i say this is a must have game for anyone with action and adventure in their blood. I recomened playing as the new character Druid, not only is he able to summon upon the foces of nature but he can also shapeshift into either a werewolf or a werebear! Come on that has to be the greatest feature ever!
Believe me i dont work for blizzard and im not being threatened with a gun, i honestly think that this game is worth every penny.
And dont forget that you need the origional diablo II before you can play lord of destruction.
