Known affectionately as "Salford's answer to Pavarotti," UK classical music singer Russell Watson has proved adept at mixing up his classical repertoire with popular 20th century compositions. On previous albums, Watson has tackled songs by pop artists as diverse as Ultravox ("Vienna") Simon and Garfunkel ("Bridge Over Troubled Waters") and Freddie Mercury ("Barcelona"); but on That’s Life he turns his attention fully to the world of popular romance for the first time. Following in the sprightly footsteps of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole, Watson approaches classics like "Strangers In The Night", "When I Fall In Love" and "Born Free" with typical verve. The selection serves to showcase Watson's natural versatility to wonderful effect, and also gives him the opportunity to perform duets with acclaimed contemporary pop stars such as Alexander O'Neal and Jocelyn Brown. While the choice of songs on That’s Life is nothing extraordinary, listening to one of Britain's finest tenors delivering some of the world's most eternal love songs is an opportunity not to be missed. --Danny McKenna

Customer Rating: Summary: Star Etiquette Comment: Hmm, Yes! He's obviously got a good voice-or he wouldn't have got a recording contract or the backing for tours.
But I WISH someone would polish up his on-stage persona.(Made me cringe!)
His 'cheeky winks' and thumb waving put me in mind of someone saying
"Ayoop Lad, Ow's t'pijjinns? (with his Whippet somewhere in the wings)
Hopefully Russell's pencil-thin figure will appeal to the younger, more health conscious set (Unlike someone we used to love...)
Customer Rating: Summary: That's Life is a good substitute - that's all Comment: There's no doubt that Russell Watson knows how to sing properly, and he makes a good job of these classic ballads. But for me, Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Tony Bennett are the real thing - and always will be. I should have known better. But if you aren't middle-aged and stuck in the past you'll love this album!
Customer Rating: Summary: thats life Comment: very disappointed. both wife and self agreed that the tempo was far too slow and the whole cd was consequently dreary.westlife and sinatra do a much better job.
Customer Rating: Summary: smooth all the way Comment: I have always been an admirers of Russells voice and his more classical albums but i think he really suits these sort of songs. The album is really nice to listen to and Russell does all these tunes justice with his smooth voice gliding effortlessly all the way. I could listen to this one all day !!
Customer Rating: Summary: He's done it again Comment: Once again Russell Watson has produced an album that surpassed my expectations. When I read that the new album would consist solely of songs made famous by American singers like Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole I wondered whether I would like it as much as his previous albums that had a mix of classical and contemporary styles. After all, what drew me to Russell in the first place was his powerful voice. I needn't have worried, this album is sublime. Turn out the lights, curl up with the one you love and let yourself be carried away by the most beautiful songs sung by the most beautiful voice.
