STORYLINE
Somewhere beyond the bright piazzas and open markets of the Venice Carnevale lurks a masked thief. Despite months of investigations, the Italian police remain helpless as stolen treasures vanish in the night. That's why the authorities asked you, as detective Nancy Drew, to join the case, to infiltrate a dangerous crime syndicate and catch this phantom thief before he or she destroys the heart of Venice!

SUSPECT PROFILES

Colin Baxter
Colin, a handsome art restorer, is restoring the Ca Nascosta for very little money, even though he's one of the best in his field. He claims to love art and works for near nothing because it is his passion. His job allows him to gain access to valuable artifacts, making him the perfect candidate for the thefts. Would he steal the treasures and sell them on the black market?

La Contessa Margherita Fauberg
Recently widowed, Margherita inherited a large sum of money after her husband passed away and purchased the Ca Nascosta to cement her status as a Venetian socialite. Her frivolous spending habits may have caused her to fall upon hard times, and she would do anything to stay in her elite circle of wealthy friends - including the theft and sale of priceless artifacts?

Helena Berg
Helena specializes in reporting high profile crimes. She covered the bust of the infamous Machiano Crime Syndicate and traveled to Venice to report on the recent thefts. Ambitious and calculating, Helena is extremely knowledgeable about the failures and successes of crime rings, but is she telling everything she knows, or does she have her own agenda?

Enrico TazzaM
Originally a member of the Machiano Crime Syndicate and a guard for stolen goods, Enrico escaped jail time because the police could never find the items he supposedly guarded. Now Enrico runs a private club called the Casa dei Giochi (House of Cards), but is it just a front for another crime ring? After all, he has the connections and the knowledge to steal the artifacts, so what's stopping him?

Antonio Fango
The prime suspect in the case, Mr. Fango installed modern conveniences for the houses where priceless artifacts were stolen. Tech savvy Antonio knows his way around security systems and may be communicating with the crime ring. Unfortunately, authorities have no evidence against him. Is he committing crimes so perfectly that no clues are left behind?

Summary: Good Entertainment
Comment: Her Interactive maintained their highest standard in this game. Set in Venice, the player has the opportunity to travel around on foot, by gondola or by boat. This is a big improvement over the previous game "Danger by design" which was set in Paris and gave little opportunity to explore that city.

Nancy is invited by the Italian police to Venice to help solve a series of robberies. Progress is made by solving puzzles and winning mini-games (smoking bees as in "Crystal Skull" and disco dancing). Both mini-games give enough leeway to be enjoyable and winnable. You also get to play an Italian card game - scopa. Again this is easily winnable.

The graphics continue to improve with each new game released. The story maintains interest and is believable. The culprit is well masked and is revealed at the end of the game. There is a smattering of Italian vocabulary required in the game which is supplied by dictionary (auto-translation) or by picture book. Either way there is only a small effort required on behalf of the player. HI should be commended on this approach.

The game ran smoothly on an older computer.

All in all this is one of the better games in the series.

Summary: Disappointing to the very end
Comment: I am a huge Nancy Drew Fan and have played all 17 of the previous titles and unfortunately I have to say this is one of the weakest installments of the lot.

The stroyline is OK, Nancy has been asked by a friend to assist the Italian Police in capturing the 'Phantom' and so goes to Venice to snoop about.

The problem with this game is the lack of puzzle compared with previous titles and the fact that progression through the game does require common sense but rather blind luck.

I dislike using walkthroughs to complete any game but found that I had to on numerous occasions and to be honest was shocked at the next step that I should take.

This may not be the same for everyone but would assume that all ND fans would like decent puzzles and a good value for money experience.

In summary, buy this game if you love ND but be prepared to be disappointed.
