"Softly he brushed my cheek, then held my face between his marble hands. ''Be very still,'' he whispered, as if I wasn''t already frozen. Slowly, never moving his eyes from mine, he leaned toward me. Then abruptly, but very gently, he rested his cold cheek against the hollow at the base of my throat. " As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. In Twilight, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because--he''s a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. She begins with a familiar YA premise (the new kid in school), and lulls us into thinking this will be just another realistic young adult novel. Bella has come to the small town of Forks on the gloomy Olympic Peninsula to be with her father. At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to renounce human prey. For Edward''s sake they welcome Bella, but when a roving group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst. The precision and delicacy of Meyer''s writing lifts this wonderful novel beyond the limitations of the horror genre to a place among the best of YA fiction. (Ages 12 and up)

Customer Rating: Summary: Definitely a youth book...but decent enough. Comment: I decided to pick up this series because a few of my friends would not stop ranting and raving about it, and I'm always looking for a good read. While I was not thoroughly disappointed, I certainly can't understand the immense draw that this novel seems to have. The characters seem a bit shallow/vapid. I agree with other reviewers in that both Bella and Edward act way too much like adults--they seem to have few of the teenage flaws that would have made their characters a bit more "human", if you will. Also, this book was VERY slow at the beginning, to the point where I almost began to regret that I bought the whole series at once. Thankfully it picked up a bit when the "bad guys" were introduced, and from then on I couldn't put it down.
All in all, if you're looking for a quick, easy read, especially if you're into the whole vampire thing, Twilight is worth a try...but I wouldn't expect TOO much.
Customer Rating: Summary: Don't understand why so many people love this book Comment: I read Twilight after being told that it was "as addictive and creative as Harry Potter"
Um...no. Twilight is a young adult novel that focuses on the life of a high school girl named Bella Swan. Bella is forced to move to live with her father in a rainy Seattle town called Forks. She has to deal with issues like being the new girl in school and being rather shy. She also must deal with the fact that she falls in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen. I'll admit, the premise of this book could allow for a very interesting story, but the story is just BLAND. 90% of the book is dialogue between Edward and Bella, and most of it consists of lines such as "You are perfect and everything and I am so in love with you!" With responses like "I will love you for all eternity forever!" Both Bella and Edward are one-dimensional and boring. All they care about is each other and the book also presents a questionable message to the teenage girls who I would assume are its target audience. Bella risks everything to be with Edward, to the detriment of herself and her family. The book tells young women that without your man, life is not worth living. I really disliked this book and it was a huge effort for me to even finish it. If you want to read a good book about vampires, read the Trueblood series instead.
Customer Rating: Summary: Absoulutely FABULOUS!!! Comment: I read books for fun and this book became an obsession. It brought me into another world. I actually felt the feelings of each of the characters. After I was finished with Twilight it left me burning for more. I have never really been a person who was into the whole vampire type thing but the way this book is written I can say I am actually a fan now. Even if you don't think you can get into this book based on the fact you don't like supernatural things, think twice because I guarantee you will love this book and series. I definately recommend this book.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best saga I have ever read Comment: I could not put this book down. I read it in less than a week, then rushed out to buy New Moon and devoured it in less than a week. I would have read them in just two days if I didn't have to go to work! I love the characters and the stories are amazing. There is real depth to the characters, they are real and relatable. I am only saddened by the fact that there are only 4 book in this series.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not an adult read!! Comment: I foolishly bought this knowing it was regarded as "young adult" reading. If you are an adult, this book will bore you to the core. There is no build up of excitement, or realistic language. And it does seem to linger in spots that don't call for it. I can see this being a good teenage read or for someone a little more sensitive to profanity, but seeing as I am not a teenager anymore and not at all sensitive to profanity, I can't fully appreciate this book for what it is. I should really give it one star from an adult perspective and four for young adult. I felt it lacked a little in personality.
If you are looking as an older person, for a more upfront vampire mystery and more to the point read, I'd go for Charlaine Harris's "Sookie Stackhouse" series. It kept me interested, which is what good books are about. I rated that one with a four, but am going to change it to a five the more I think about it. It's a great and exciting read. A fast paced, strange, yet more believable love story. And the show 'True Blood' on HBO based on the book series is awesome.
