Editorial Reviews:

The Wi-Ex zBoost cell zone signal booster is a revolutionary, patent-pending new product that improves indoor cell phone coverage. zBoost captures the wireless signal outside, brings it inside and enhances, or boosts it - extending a cell zone in your home or office or your car.

Summary: Hopes dashed
Comment: I finally bought the extender to hopefully improve my one/two bar reception. I followed the instructions, looked at the FAQ's and there was no improvement. My installation was inside the attic near a window where I was getting 3-full bars. The signal in the room with the extender unit was no better than the two bars I get on a good day. I watched the lights flicker as they should for my "band" and I saw a minimal improvement when right next to the box. When not next to the box, there was no improvement at all. I think they need to make the base unit more powerful? Also, the base and the antenna were separated by the entire lenght of supplied cable and was not in the same room.

I tested my wife's iPhone and it was even worse. It did not register any improvement at all.

Maybe the exterior installation is only way the extender works, but note carefully that routing a coax cable down to the location of desired service is quite a process you must be willing to undertake.

The unit is on its way back to Amazon, and I really wish this unit could have improved my reception. I would not recommend this product based upon my experience.

Summary: Expensive, but well worth it.
Comment: I was very skeptical, especially at this price point, that this device would work as well as advertised. My New York apartment had zero cell reception in the bedroom, while if I sat on the living room windowsill I had 3/5 bars. After installing the antenna high on the wall in the window and the base station in the bedroom I have 5 bars throughout the whole apartment with perfect reception. Given the relative impossibility of finding any place in Manhattan more than a few feet from something metal I was unable to completely follow the recommendations, but still it works flawlessly. Definitely a buy if you're living in a "dead zone".

Summary: Works great, but doesn't cover as much ground as I'd like
Comment: This products works great, if you install it properly. I have a 5 bar signal on my roof, but 0-2 bars in the house. So I put the antenna on the roof, ran the cable down the side of my house and into the basement, where I then ran the cable straight across from where it enter the house to a point in the center of my basement. It's now right in the center of the house, just below the ceiling.

In the basement, we now get between 2-5 bars, and on the first floor, we get 1-4.

This claims to cover 2500 sq ft, and we have an 1800 sq ft house... but it doesn't cover the whole thing very well. When you're in the basement in the room beside where it is, it works great (5 bars)... but if you go into the first floor and away from the center of the house, you sometimes drop down to 1-2 bars.

We have NOT had a dropped call since we got it, which is a HUGE improvement, but I was hoping for more than a 1-2 bar signal when I'm 30 feet away from it. It does work well enough though that I'd recommend it to anybody

Summary: Not very good.
Comment: This product didn't work well. It had virtually no range, or signal improvement. i returned it and changed cell providers: much better and cheaper results.

Summary: Not good enough
Comment: I bought the YX510 over two months ago; only a handful of successful calls so far. I can still get a better signal on my phone by setting it in an upstairs window than I can with this unit's antenna mounted on the roof above it. Worse, the signal rises and drops during calls. I've spent hours with Wi-ex customer service, and they replaced the base unit once (it also ran a bit hot). The second unit displays notably different behavior in the operational lights. Customer service seems to ignore calls and emails for a bit, then suddenly get very active and sympathetic. They confirmed the correctness of the installation, and are suggesting I need a directional antenna. I'm reluctant to spend even more time and money on this, especially given the nearby electric wires and 25-30' of ladder required! Apparently, this thing works only in certain situations, and unfortunately, I tried too long to make it work, and now can't return it. BTW, I noticed a "dealer" on Wi-Ex's web site that wasn't too far away. I called; no answer; I couldn't leave a message because his voice mail mailbox "was full". Not an auspicious omen.
