Editorial Reviews:

Steve Tyrell, whose appearances in the two "Father Of The Bride" movies, and whose albums "A New Standard" and "Standard Time" established him as a premier contemporary interpreter of the Great American Songbook, now turns his attention to one of the legendary composers in all of pop music: Burt Bacharach.

Steve has a personal stake in these classic songs. As a young man breaking into the record business in the 1960s, he became head of A&R and Promotion at Scepter Records, the history-making independent label that released the famous hits written by Bacharach and his lyricist partner Hal David, and recorded by the great Dionne Warwick. Tyrell was present at the creation of standards like "Walk On By," "Alfie," "I Say A Little Prayer," and many others. Moreover, he produced B.J. Thomas' Oscar-winning recording of Bacharach-David's "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head."

One can only categorize Tyrell's performances on "Back To Bacharach" as definitive. His supporting cast includes the top session players on two coasts, as well as guest collaborators Herb Alpert, Patti Austin, Dionne Warwick, James Taylor, Rod Stewart, and Martina McBride. Steve's own singular vocal style, drenched in the Texas tones of his sophisticated R&B approach, is perfectly suited to these great hits. He sings the songs exactly the way everyone wants to hear them. To top it all of, Maestro Bacharach himself appears on three tracks as a performer and two as co-producer.

Steve Tyrell's "Back To Bacharach" makes the case for adding Burt Bacharach to the roster of all-time great creators of the previous generation of American Songbook immortals---Porter, Gershwin, Berlin, Kern, and Ellington. And it does so with supreme style, taste, and expertise.

Summary: The Best!
Comment: Of all the CDs I have, and I have a lot - from old to new, rock to slow jazz, this is my all time favorite. Every song is wonderful. It takes me back to the 60s and the music I loved. I sing every word, with every song. It's THE BEST!

Summary: Who could go wrong with Bacharach?
Comment: If you like the music of Bacharach combined with a husky, soothing voice, this is the album for you. I listen to it all the time in my car. Steve Tyrell has other great albums too.

Summary: Steve is the Greatest
Comment: We met Steve when his son played with ours on Little League teams Steve coached. While we knew he was in the music business, we'd have never guessed that the "gravelly voice from the Texas Blues bands" would soon be a "jazz star" on the radio.....And starring on our CD changer.

We have enjoyed his music, both recorded and live, over and over. He has great stories to tell (including how he was enticed to start recording). He is as wonderful with the audience as he was with the Little Leaguers. And we shared his pain when his wife died. Knowing that this latest recording honors her and helps fund cancer research makes it all the more special.

Steve always has great musicians and great productions......Those years "behind the glass" have really paid off.

Try this and see if you do not also get into his other works.

Keep up the good work.

Summary: Steve Tyrell Bounces Back with a Very Good CD
Comment: After a disappointing CD of Disney tunes, Steve Tyrell bounces back with a very good CD of Burt Bacharach songs. The previous CD of Disney songs did not play well into crooner mode. But his gravel tinged, warm emotional voice translates very well in this latest release. I especially like Steve's version of Walk on By, Raindrops and the star studded version of the usually corny What the World Need Now. The arrangements are very tight and crisp and it is obvious that great care was spent in making this CD.

If you've never seen Steve Tyrell in concert...you are missing a great show. He is very warm, endearing, chatty and has charisma coming out of every pore. It is clear that he loves singing and loves people.

This CD is on the same level of the "Sinatra CD" he did several years ago. There are a couple of weak songs, but 11 of the 14 tracks are really good.
